[ale] USB device stops working

I'll double-check to make sure the kernel being loaded is the right one, 
but dmesg seem to indicate that the USB stuff is loaded.

I tried to sda2, but I didn't go any further down the list.  I haven't 
added anything or moved anything or rebuilt the kernel though.
