[ale] clean distro?

I find slackware to build the smallest install of the major players. (if 
you tell it not to install X, it doesn't)  Beyond that you're probably 
looking at linux from scratch or something.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
