Steve,

Pop before smtp would seemingly give you exactly what you need. I use (a
variation of) it and it meets the needs of many users here.

Typically web clients will send for anyone that successfully
authenticates. Sqwebmail is the package we use, but squirrelmail and
horde are both packages that I have used and work. I don't like the web
mail because users tend to leave their mail on the server and then
exceed their quota. So I think pop before smtp would be the better
investment of time, even though it is more complicated to set up.

Ok.....since relaying doesn't seem to be an alternative for the way I am
wanting to use this box.....How about a web based interface to access
the
mail server? If a user is accessing and using mail through a web
interface
running ON the local machine would sendmail assume the user is local? Or
would it still recognize the user as being outside of its domain? I am
just
starting to look at web based clients and like the looks of NeoMail but
am
open to suggestions there as well. I already have apache up and running
so
intergrating shouldn't be a problem...right now I have sendmail on a
different box but may integrate the two into one. Whichever is easiest
and
makes the most sense.
