[ale] updater tool?

That would be a nice tool, but it would be a huge project on the scale
of building a distribution. Since so many package websites are scattered
all over webspace, the locate database would be a big mess.

Could it be done? Absolutely! The distributions already do it for you.
It could probably be done by trolling Freshmeat the easiest.
