But since the space containing the spinning drive is not air, but an
inert gas like helium to eliminate contamination and friction, the speed
of sound will be much higher.

c=(B/p)^(1/2)  where c is velocity, B is bulk modulus and p is density.

Since a helium atmosphere is about the same B value as air, but the
density is much lower the speed of sound in helium, at 20 degree C, is
1km/s, or 621 miles/ssecond or 37,260 mph!
