It's not a bash built-in functions, but this alias works:
     alias r='fc -s'

In fact, this got me to think "Whatis this 'fc' thingy I had in my
aliases?  It is "Fix Command" which allows this:

    [1007] hirsch>grpe this that
    bash: grpe: command not found
    [1008] hirsch>fc -s pe=ep
    grep this that
    grep: that: No such file or directory

Tah dah!
