Indeed, since I know (comparatively) little about Linux at the moment, 
I've stuck with running what comes on the CD's.  Everything works, and 
I have some time left to actually write programs, etc. 

I figure I can experiment with new stuff when I buy the next round of CD's.
That will be soon enough, and by then whatever it is will probably be 
debugged somewhat better as well.  There's a reason they call it the 
"bleeding" edge, I guess.
