Irv, you're absolutely correct. I meant to make that clear in my post,
but in dinking around with my reply, I screwed up and took that part
out. My mistake. That being said, it STILL does depend on what one is
planning on preaching...*grin*. If one is going for FS solutions, none
of those are acceptable. If one is going for Linux-based solutions,
they may be.

Nor I. I've seen this sorta thread before, on other lists, as it is a
pretty common need, obviously, for small businesses that want to move
off of Windows. I SEEM to recall something hosted on SF, that might
have been fairly "vaporish" last time I checked. Hold on...

huh...don't remember seeing this before:

Compiere: http://www.compiere.org/accounting.html
(Project hosted at SF: http://sourceforge.net/projects/compiere/)

What Compiere does

Manage your business better:

    * Optimize your Inventory
    * Enter Sales Orders
    * Receive Orders from the Web
    * Create Invoices and record Shipments
    * Collect Receipts (cash, credit cards) & match with Bank
    * Statements
    * Generate or enter Purchase Orders
    * Record Supplier Receipts and Invoices
    * Pay your Suppliers
    * Enter manual Journals
    * Print reports and statements

"Comprehensive ERP/CRM solution for small-medium enterprises (SME) in
the global marketplace covering all areas from customer management,
supply chain and accounting."

I have NO idea how usable it is, but it does seem to be at least an
active project. To poke around some more, the accounting trove at SF
is at:

http://sourceforge.net/softwaremap/trove_list.php?form_cat=76
