You might really want to check out the latest Kylix/Delphi combo..
I've not gotten to play specifically with Kylix.  But you can put an app together in a hurry with Delphi.

And then with a couple of switchs (path delimiter for one):

You can compile the same code for win or lin.

I'd be interested in hearing what the rest of the list has to say.
Especially if they have tried kylix.

Subject: [ale] Rapid Gui Development

I'm in need to produce a GUI client that can access web services through
xmlrpc (the services are implemented in java with jaxrpc).

It's not going to be entirely complex, but needs to be thrown up quickly.
What would ale'rs recommend for this task?  My first thought was to use
Python with Tkinter, but I think Tk requires extra effort sometimes to
relatively simple things.  I'd prefer to stick with a scripting language,
as something like Qt would be too much overhead...same with Java.

It's for a research assistantship, so non-commercial.

The client should be able to run on Windows and Linux.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

John
