I was looking at Xandros and am excited about it since it is based on
Debian. I've wanted to try out Debian but don't want to have to go back
to the build from scratch type setup. I think a really easy to install
and use system based on Debian would be fun to try out. I plan to see
what Xandros is like as soon as it ships. It will have the Corel Linux
office package and the latest KDE so I'll feel at home finally. Years
ago I had Wordperfect as my package for my school work and really loved
it. KSU had MSoffice junk so I have been stuck with that until I got
Staroffice on my desktop PC. I like SuSE alot since it has been easy to
install and supported most all the hardware I've had to deal with.
However, the apt-get functionality that people rave about is not in
SuSE. The patch update mechanism is nice for keeping update on
security, but you never get new packages or later packages. You have to
go the rpm update process to really keep SuSE uptodate. I understand
that they really want you to purchase each new version to get the latest
stuff. I have shelled out quite a bit of money on the last 4 SuSE
versions so am a little tired of doing that. Debian sound alot easier
to keep updated. Is this correct?
