   The Next ALE-NW Meeting

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: The meetings are always on the 3rd Thursday.

Thanks to Kennesaw State University's Student Linux User's Group for hosting
the ALE - NW meetings.

Date: August 15, 2002

Topic: Practical Tutorial on Linux DVD Ripping
When: 8:00PM

Presenter: K. S. Wehr ("Eater")

A practical tuturial will be given on Linux DVD ripping
using the transcode video stream processing tool. This
process enables the Linux user to take a DVD's MPEG-2 data,
manipulate several audio and video characteristics,
and encode this information using a more manageable codec.

Emphasis will be given to the installation of tools and libraries
needed. Common command-line usage will be detailed, as well as
automating the process using a popular scripting language. Eater
will also touch on some of the political issues surrounding this
topic as it relates to fair use and the DMCA.

     K. S. Wehr ("Eater") has been obsessed with UNIX and Linux for
much of the last decade. When not tending to his Columbus-based
networking company, he spends his time experimenting and helping
others learn about Linux and network security.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
