[ale] DSL Modem pre-emptive safety?

Hello all,

I'm planning to get some landscaping done, and expect the area over my DSL line
to be 
in danger of a fiber-seeking post-hole digger.  Should I disconnect my Linksys
DSL
modem
from the line before the work starts?  Or is there no danger of damage from a
cut line?
