[ale] Weird install errors

Running RH 7.1 on a Compaq LTE5280 notebook (120mhz,
32mb ram) and it runs perfectly well.  Did text
install and had no problems.  Even Gnome/Sawfish
function with acceptable speed, although using
Blackbox or icewm as the wm improves performance.
