[ale] X esound, xmms and OSS?

I'm running latest Debian with the latest X, esound, oss and xmms on a 2.4.4
kernel.  I can start everything up, and do an "mpg123 *" from a large 
directory and it runs all day.  If I use XMMS to play files it'll pause
or hang a number of times EACH song...

Thoughts?
