I don't mind it on my workstation.  I'm a big boy and I can deal with
it.  But I'm building a consumer product, not a workstation.  The
visible grey screen is a UI bug that I'd like to fix.  X should start
up smoothly into my UI.  The fact that the user sees a grey screen
before my UI appears is not suitable for a consumer product.
