[ale] good linux

It is a very broad question.
Will it be workstation? server? something in between?

I started with SlackWare, then moved to RedHat, eventually ended using
Debian.
Good points for Debian:
1. Biggest package base.
2. Apt installation packages. ( nothing can be more easy )
3. Automated security updates ( or any packages )

I have been running Debian since by redhat box was compromised a year ago.

If you need ability to tweak your box and already have your feet wet in
Linux
go with Debian. If you are just starting out maybe better try RedHat first.
