I have a laptop TOSHIBA with Prentium III 600 GB, RAM 192 MB, 11 GB, and an
internal MODEM. Red Hat 6.e has been installed in March, and in Bolivia
I was
able to connect me to INTERNET through kppp.
I am presently on WINDOWS and AOL (on the same laptop).
I found on INTERNET the following page:
http://www.pengaol.org/
from where you can download pengaol, a programme for connecting you to AOL
under LINUX. I made some progress but I could not succeed in the final
step.
I am working on it with the help of this site (http://www.pengaol.org/).
If you know the trick to adjust pengaol correctly here at Atlanta, I
would be
happy.

Hello Jean-Pierre,

the big ISPs here (bellsouth, earthlink) are reported to both work with
linux. If you are a demanding user, you'll want to try DSL or a cable
modem service.  All work with Linux, as LONG AS you choose an external
modem with an ethernet interface.
