I wish I had a link
for this, but it came to me in an html e-mail and sending it to the list would
be messy. Anyway, techtarget.com sent an article about weather.com's conversion
to a totally Linux server setup.

High points:

<SPAN

The Linux setup
there now handles between 10 and 15 million hits a day!
Open Source has
proven to offer better security than closed source.

Low
points:

Linux still has a
long way to go when it comes to handling symmetric multi-processing beyond two
processors.
They still need a
journaling file system.

But overall, Linux
has been a huge success for weather.com. So, the next time an IT manager casts
doubts on Linux' ability to perform in a true large-scale server operation,
point them to weather.com.
