Aaron -

What goes wrong?

I dont' think there's anything about the use of DHCP that shold affect NFS
other than the fact that the addresses you use on the exporting side, if
any, to restrict access have to be appropriately wildcarded. What happens
if you set up fixed IP addresses on both machines and try it?

Subject: [ale] NFS with DHCP?

OK; I've read and experimented enough to ask for outside help on this
one...

I have a simple 2 machine network with a hub and an ADSL connection.
The ADSL modem is acutally doing several chores as shown below:

<A.localdomain> ---| H |
                   | U |--- <ADSL Modem / DHCP Server / Router / Filter>
<B.localdomain> ---| B |

I'm using DHCP (pump) and default Class C local net addressing
(192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0) with the modem's fixed (.1) address as the
Gateway. Everything works fine for ADSL access and both of the Linux
systems see and share the internet connection fine. (So router, hub,
DHCP Server elements are all proven).

Now I would like to set up some simple peer-to-peer file sharing between
the 2 systems. Have been attempting to do this with NFS, but I seem to
be missing something and don't understand how one could cofigure NFS so
it finds the Dynamically assigned addresses from DHCP.

Pointers of any kind would be helpful.
Sorry if this is Network 101...

peace
(after justice)
