A much easier method is to use boot disks which have been modified to
include Andre Hedrick's patches for ATA66/100 controllers in the RH kernel.
You can find unofficial ones at

If you've purchased RH, you can harass their support and they'll send you
officially unofficial (ie, RH made it but we don't officially support it)
boot disks which are basically the same as the above....
