The man -k command is very useful for finding commands that you know the
subject but can't remember the command.  For example:
man -k ftp
will result in:

Aslan 19% man -k ftp
ftp (1C)                - Internet file transfer program
ftpd (1M)               - Internet File Transfer Protocol server
netrc (4)               - ftp auto-login initialization file
smbclient (1)           - ftp-like client to access SMB/CIFS resources
on servers
tftp (1C)               - trivial file transfer program
tftpd (1M)              - internet Trivial File Transfer Protocol server
Aslan 20% 

It is the old "apropos" command which was deprecated, right?  Anyway, I
use it all the time since my memory is short!
