You haven't been hacked!  Don't worry!

The updatedb command is a cron job that runs periodically.  I don't
remember specifically what it is updating.  It may be just the file
location GNU database, checking for file locations for the "locate"
command.  "Makewhatis" updates the man page index.  So your fine, the
machine is doing what the distribution creators setup as regular cron
jobs.  If you don't like it, you can always change it in the master
crontab file.
