I know where my cd is but how will the kernel know what device the root file
system is located on?

Run rdev on the boot image b4 you record it.

Title: Linuxcare Rescue Disk

Does anyone here have a Linuxcare rescue disk?  I'm trying to create my own and have come up with some interesting problems.  Here is the problem.

I know where my cd is but how will the kernel know what device the root file system is located on?

I have thought about creating a boot image on cd that will load Linux, run init, and the run my script that will check each possible device that contains the CD.  then chroot to the mount and run startup scripts.

If I put the cd in a CDROM and a different location, I want to CD to find the root file system and mount it.  Has anyone tried this?
