[ale] Looking For Constructive Help

Two comments, not very usefull I'm afraid. Still...

I put RH7.0 on a spare partition of a RH6.2 machine to compare them
recently. Except for the X server, which had problems, I have yet to
discover any real drawbacks to 7.0. I do have problems with the
distribution, mostly due to changing file locations to conform with the
file standard (which is mentioned in the docs), but that is probably _my_
problem, not RH's. Thus, if you don't mind spending whatever you want, I'd
give 7.0 a shot (especially since you don't need to unlearn somethings to
achieve comfort!)

The other: My own style of getting new skills tends to be "start, screw
up, punt, lose everything, start over" repeated as necessary. If you work
that way, setting yourself up with a second machine (or at least dual
boot from two disks) may be a good use of resources. YMMV of course.

The harder I work, the luckier I get.
