Ed,

I recently signed up for EarthLink ADSL and received ZyXEL Prestige 642M. I
found a forum on http://www.dlsreports.com that had info on hacking the
P641. I haven't had a chance yet to try it in the P642M. In any case here
is the info located at this URL:

The guy who did the hack posted all the info to his web site including a
configuration util for the 641. It is the closest info to the 642 I have
found so far.

I hope this helps. If you find out what it is please let me know. It may be
some time before I get to play with it as I'm in the process of moving my
computers and everything is in boxes. The docs for the 642 state that it
does PPPoE however, I have read reports saying the 642R not the 642M
supports PPPoE. I'm hoping this is not the case as I have client systems
that I want to connect for which there is no PPPoE client software
available. If it turns out that the 642M doesn't support PPPoE I will have
to build a router or buy a replacement for the 642M. As the saying goes,
"speed costs, how fast can you afford to go."

happy surfing,
keith
