[ale] OT: DSL with Telocity

Well, no one seems to have mentioned DSL lately, so I thought I'd break the
drought. :)

As of now, I'm able to connect to the Internet from Linux over Telocity DSL.
Yeah, I know, big whoop. Here's what differentiates Telocity, best I can tell:

- Support for UNIX machines, in addition to Windows variants and Macs. That's
explicit support, none of this "it's rumored that Linux enthusiasts have
hacked together a solution" stuff. In theory, any machine with an Ethernet
card and an OS that can support DHCP and run a web browser should work with
their setup.

- Static address assignment. Even though you're assigned an IP address
through DHCP, the server will give you the same address every time. It's
advertised as such, actually. That's good news for those of you wanting to
run your webserver at home. Or bad news if you totally ph33r 1337 cr4ck3rz.
In any case, your gateway/modem also has a static address, but the mfgr.
seems to have locked it down pretty tight. It's at least smart enough to
close any inbound requests from the outside for port 80 (which, if exposed,
might allow someone to reconfig the gateway).

- Unlimited bandwidth. Provided, of course, you're not trying to run a
pr0n site from your box. Most DSL services have this, but it seems that at
least one service in town limits transfers to 2 GB/month.

OK, that's all I can think of for now ... and no, I don't know if I get a
free month if you use my ID when you sign up.
