you could do one of two things.

upgrade to rpm4.0. you might have to get the tarball and install it by yourself from ftp.rpm.org. Also you would have to install
libpopt and db3.

or you could be conservative and move to rpm3.0.6. This understands db3 format and i guess this is the direction that suse/caldera/turbolinux are going
as there are some bugs in rpm4.0 apparently.
