Keith,
Thanks so much for the reply!  I was able to get into the DSL
modem via the console port and reboot it with no problem.  I was surprised
to read on DSLReports.com all about how the Zyxel Prestige 642 had problems
with the LinkSys DSL routers.  I have firmware 1.30 on my LinkSys
router and have experienced some problems with the connection being dropped.
I thought it was BellSouth or Mindspring since my only solution was powering
off/on the DSL modem.  I never thought that the router would be the
problem.  The NetGear 311 or 314 router is highly recommended instead.
I am stuck with my LinkSys for now since Microcenter only takes returns
for 30days.  Oh well!  My solution was to develop an expect script
to software reset the DSL modem and restore the connection that way.
Maybe I'll try coyote again since the drivers for my ethernet cards are
now included.  What are you doing for your routing and PPPoE?
Upgrading the firmware on the LinkSys seems a dangerous thing after reading
the experiences of others.  Check out if interested:

I'd rather wait to hear some "good news" on the upgrade for the router
before jumping in.  I read thru alot of the postings and the tech
support stuff is discouraging too.  Amazing how users will let you
know if you just can locate their posts.  I sure wish I had checked
this out beforehand.  I have had great luck with a PCMCIA Ethernet/Modem
LinkSys card for my laptop so had a preformed opinion of LinkSys products
from that.

Dow,
I recently signed up for EarthLink ADSL and received ZyXEL Prestige
642M. I
found a forum on http://www.dlsreports.com
that had info on hacking the
P641. I tried the password "mspgzyx" (no quotes) that was mentioned
in the
post and it worked.

The guy who did the hack posted all the info to his web site including
a
configuration util for the 641. It is the closest info to the 642 I
have
found so far.
