Only one of which counts. Welcome to ps under linux and multi-threaded
apps.

It's 25% more, using your figures. The question is, what is it after
running for a while? On my system, netscape leaks much more, and much more
quickly, than mozilla, quickly ballooning to 40+ Megs RSS (100+ Megs on bad
days), while mozilla behaves much more reasonably....

I'm also not sure why your mozilla is so big to begin with; from ps -aux,
and freshly started nightly Mozilla vs Netscape 4.76:

kaboom 21888 28.2 11.2 22304 14460 pts/0 S 09:18 0:18 /usr/lib/netscape/476/communicator/communicator-smotif.real http://www.yahoo.com/
kaboom 21944 0.0 0.7 1792 900 pts/0 S 09:18 0:00 sh /opt/mozilla/run-mozilla.sh /opt/mozilla/mozilla-bin
kaboom 21949 13.3 15.6 25224 20108 pts/0 S 09:18 0:07 /opt/mozilla/mozilla-bin
kaboom 21951 0.0 15.6 25224 20108 pts/0 S 09:18 0:00 /opt/mozilla/mozilla-bin
kaboom 21952 0.0 15.6 25224 20108 pts/0 S 09:18 0:00 /opt/mozilla/mozilla-bin
kaboom 21974 0.0 15.6 25224 20108 pts/0 S 09:18 0:00 /opt/mozilla/mozilla-bin

You might have build w/ debugging and / or w/o optimization?

That's not to say mozilla doesn't have problems (it does), but I think its
memory footprint, start-up time, etc., are actually as good as or better
than netscape's.

later,
chris
