You may recall that I posted this job announcement a couple of months ago.
Good candidates have been hard to come by (not surprising with today's
market).  The job description has changed slightly emphasizing more video
experience.  Linux has a foot in the door at the GVU Center and has a strong
future in graphics and visualization considering the 3D/OpenGL support that
is coming out now.

POSITION: Research Scientist I

REPORTS TO: Associate Director for Service and Computing, GVU Center

SALARY: Competitive, depending on experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Working with the Computing and Network Services (CNS) group,
the successful candidate will provide essential support to the Graphics,
Visualization  & Usability (GVU) Center including
- Running the GVU digital video operation
- Supporting specialized software (e.g., 3D modeling and visualization)
  and equipment (e.g., large format printer)
- Providing consistent and effective support of other GVU activities and
  functions
- Providing liaison to the CNS group to ensure effective lab operation

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred qualifications include a B.S. or M.S. degree in
Computer Science, or a closely related field, experience with digital video
equipment and editing, a disposition to provide training to students and
faculty, experience supporting UNIX and/or NT system and
application software, good communications skills, a strong service orientation,
and the ability to work well with other professionals in providing technical
solutions.  The successful candidate will have the
opportunity to pick up important new skills on the job in an exciting, leading
edge environment.

ENVIRONMENT: The GVU Center is an interdisciplinary Center devoted to
research and development in transparent, ubiquitous, active, and powerful
multi-media interfaces to people, places, and information.  The faculty
numbers nearly 70 members and are drawn from Psychology, Mechanical
Engineering, Office of Interdisciplinary Programs, Physics, Mathematics,
Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Literature, Culture and
Communication, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Architecture and the
College of Computing.  The number of graduate students is 200.  For more
