With the assistance of two list members, the problem I posted last week
has been resolved.

Leaving out the deadends, the problem was: After upgrading to RH6.2 and
netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.3-6, my linux appletalk server was no longer
appearing in the chooser of the mac, and netatalk was leaving some error
messages in /var/log/messages which I could not interprete.

It turns out, for the server to show up in the chooser, apparently, two
things need to be done on the linux/netatalk end.
1) insmod appletalk.o to the kernel. Since stopping netatalk will remove
this module, this must be done each time you want to start netatalk (If
somebody knows the alias needed to automate this, please speak up!)
2) The default netatalk server needs to specifically be configured to use
ddt (the appletalk protocol). This is done by adding "- -transall" to the
file /etc/atalk/afpd.conf on a line of its own.

I don't know if this will help the individual running SUSE and netatalk
who is on this list, but I hope it will.

Thanks to the entire list for the use of bandwidth.
