[ale] Kernel-rebuild loose ends

A clarification point. 

The modules.dep file will be created on the first boot if it does not
already exist. Don't ln -s one from a previous modules directory. It may
cause ulcers, headaches and general intestinal problems as modules change
slightly between issues.
