I view this whole thing as analogous to George Lucas re-releasing the
original Star Wars trilogy 15 years later when he had the ability to make
the film the way he originally wanted it. Granted, there was nothing
preventing the Who from releasing their album in the 70's as they had
originally intended, but the problem was that the whole concept was just
too far out, and so the whole meaning would never have been
discovered. Why? Because people wouldn't have gotten it back then, and
now, people would have heard the songs so much that the album would have
become a set of disjointed objects in most people's minds.

By comparison, at this point in time, the objects that make up the album
are mostly well-known songs (radio has seen to that) but the configuration
of them is new, and the concept will be known, and further, the meanings
of the individual songs will suddenly become clear.
