I don't mean to spread FUD, and I am not an expert in this area, so
you might want to do your own research.

some bugs in the IDE-DMA code that cause the system to lock up.  Also, if
you have an IDE hard disk > 32GB, the reiserfs folks say that you cannot
use DMA, at least not with reiserfs.
