I've been using it for a while with my scanner.  Can't recall much of
how I got it installed though.  I'm running the same version.  There's a
configuration file under /etc/sane.d for my scanner.  I only use it with
gimp, so I've got xscanimage linked under my plug-ins directory.

That's all I can recall at this time.  Feel free to pick my (feeble)
brain.
