[ale] gcc and egcs co-existing?

[Nomad the Wanderer]

  I just upgraded to RedHat-6.0.  While working on debugging an app,
I found that /usr/bin/gcc is actualy egcs.  Acording to the developers
that'ls a problem.  

  The question.  If I install latest gcc, am I going to break anything
major or do I need to remove egcs first, etc?
