[ale] hard disk problems continued

I started to do a reinstall.  I first repartitioned
the hard drive.  When I started to install all the packages
(this is a Caldera automated install) it gave me errors.
I never had any problem installing to a blank disk before.
It seems like it may be an actual problem with the hard disk
itself for problems to persist through repartitioning. 
Anyone disagree before I go buy myself a new hard drive?
