This is the way I load them and it works for me, YMMS...

insmod /lib/modules/2.0.36/scsi/scsi_mod.o
insmod /lib/modules/2.0.36/scsi/sd_mod.o
insmod /lib/modules/2.0.36/scsi/ppa.o

I'm not even sure that all three are needed.  I found them in the scsi
directory, so I loaded them.  It's worked ever since.
