[ale] Mindspring and kppp

I have had the same problem! Ended up using wvdial instead, which can
force ppp to start. I concluded my test by thinking that the login in
on some phone numbers at Mindspring really were connecting to
different servers with different subtle send-expect strings to start
ppp. I have had good success with the old 4046541350 number using the
final expect-send pair of expect "~" send "". The newer number I
haven't gotten Mindspring to help me with yet. I was trying to work
the problem myself using O'Reilly's PPP book. Does anyone have a
working setup of expect-send pairs that works with the newer Atlanta
numbers or the 800 number? Has anyone looked at the online log of
attempted connections and noticed that the strings are different? So
far wvdial has worked on every number, so doesn't that mean that some
servers want the client to start PPP instead of the otherway round
since wvdial will start PPP if the server won't?

Here is my expect-send pair list I use(personal info changed to
protect the guilty!)

"ogin" "email at wherever.mindspring.com"
"assword" "blahblah"
"~" ""

That is all I need for the older number. Thanks for the help,
Dow
