Thanks - I'ld forgotten that dodge, which I had heard, but not tried.

I think that I'll get hands on another disk (2GBy will do it), back up
extended partition, make sure I can boot _that_, then repartition where
those had been.

The coward's way out, but I have enough excitement at the moment, thanks.
