[ale] serial devices & out of mem err w/2.1.106?

I just got 2.1.106 compiled on my system last night and now at boot up or
any other time serial devices are accessed it produces an out of memory error.
This is on a PR166 system with 48Mb of main memory. Has anyone seen anything
about this and is there a patch yet?
