[ale] stairsteps

William,
I'm getting into this discussion quite late, so please forgive me if I
offer things previously suggested. And let me add, I'm not a hacker of
Linux. I've run it since 94 and I do MOST of my work using Linux, but I'm
still a dual boot person :-(

  I maintain 4 Linux dual-boot systems - 2 at home and 2 at work. I'm
running RedHat 5.0 on both at work and my pc at home (the wife's is still
at 4.2.) My printer at home is a HP 660 cse and it worked out of the box
for both 4.2 and 5.0. At work, I deal with a HP 4si that is networked
with no IP address set. Home was pretty simple to set up.

I'm using the HP 550C setting, with 1.) send EOF after job to eject
2.) Fix stair-stepping text and 3.) Fast text printing all selected.
Ditto for my wife's 4.2 box.

If you need my work settings (I relay through 1 to 2 Unix boxes to get
to the printers) email me tomorrow. This one is a little bit complicated.

Steve

P.S This is in a 'native' Linux environment (that may change things.) I
didn't do a 'minimal' install, it used ~250 megs with X installed. With
such things as StarOffice installed, I'm at ~530 megs. Since you're
running umsdos, things may change from what I've written above.
