Try specifying the exact directory.  My pkgtool on Slackware 3.4 will also
return to a prompt unless I point to a source disk (ie x1, x2, etc...).

For example:   /cdrom/slakware/x1

This of course is only one slackware source disk.
I am still trying to learn if pkgtool works with entire packages or disk sets.

The "setup" command (again Slackware 3.4) seems to do a nice job prompting
the user for what they want when going back to install more software from disk
sets.
