Having been out for a day, I want to respond to a couple of 
questions.

The first question is to whoever was having a problem with a locked 
password file.  For reasons that I don't know the system writes a 
hidden file to the /etc directory called .pwd.lock.  Delete this file 
and you should be able to add a user to the system.

Linux more than held its own, scaled well with an additional 
processor (unlike NT which had a performance drop with two 
processors) and left every other OS in the dust.  The dist used was 
RedHat (not sure which version).
