[ale] gcc kernel compile errors...

There's an FAQ on this. It's called sig11 or gccsig11, something like
that.  It will tell you is that you've probably got a hardware
problem, most likely your memory. If you're not having any problems
with other programs mysteriously crashing, you can get all the way
thru the kernel compile by cd'ing to the directory where the compile
crashed and typing make. It will continue the compile where it left
off with no bad side effects.
