In order to run an X-windows program, you need a high-bandwidth connection.
28.8k is not a fast connection in this case.  Changing the protocol from
PPP to CSLIP will not really make a noticable difference.

If you are going to be doing a lot of X-windows work from home, it will be
well worth your money to get ISDN.
