	Have you installed the needed libraries and binutils with the
	gcc-2.7.X stuff? Without those important parts you will not be
	able to compile any ELF stuff. You need binutils-2.6.X &
	libc-5.3.X

	Why not get a kernel off one of the later Slackware or RedHat
	distributions that already has ELF support?
