[ale] [ALE] time keeping problems

My Linux box keeps terrible time.  I saw that the CMOS clock was fairly
acurate, so I decided to stick in a "/sbin/clock -s" into my crontab.  Well
now my CMOS clock works just as badly as the Linux system clock!!!

I think /sbin/clock has the unfortunate side affect of slowing down the
CMOS clock just a tad whenever it is run.  Perhaps the clock stops running
while its registers are being read??

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody here has/had the same problem.
Any resolution would also be nice... :)
