Founded in December 1994, we have hosted a plethora of monthly meetings with talk topics ranging from "How to Configure PPP" to "How to Write Device Drivers". We usually have around 40 - 100 people at each meeting.
The ALE group is loosely organized, with a few people acting as contact points and no charter to bog things down. Anyone is welcome to come to the meetings; there is no membership, fees or any other formalities. To become a member, just show up. Our primary interest is in getting information about Linux to members of the Atlanta community.
ALE has three monthly meetings to accomodate the growing Linux Enthusiast population of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Central meeting is held at Emory University on the second Thursday of the month. The ALE NorthEast meeting is held at Edeltacom Data Center on the first Thursday of the month. The ALE NorthWest meets the third Thursday at the Weather Channel. Directions are on the left sidebar.
We will be demonstrating FreeNX for the meeting.
FreeNX is a remote desktop solution that is comparable to VNC or RDP that is primarily suited for high latency low bandwith network connections.

The meeting will start as normal. Please arrive at 7:15 for escort up to the conference area. We will try to get everyone escorted upstairs on time to be able to start on time. Presentation & Q/A period should last roughly 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
With apologies, we were not able to arrange a formal
presentation for the July ALE Central Meeting.
As an alternative, we are offering a more socially
minded informal event, which is to have a casual ALE
gathering with ALE tasting and free form Linux type

Melton’s is exactly 6 stop lights (and about 2 miles) East
of our usual Emory Law School venue. It is at the corner
of Scott Blvd. and North Decatur roads, next door to a Pet
Supermarket store.

Melton’s has an broad selection of brews and some
unique, reasonably priced edible offerings for both
appetizers and dinners. (Consider Irish Nachos for
instance…)
