Welcome to the

Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts

Promoting Linux in Atlanta Since 1994
The Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts (ALE) are a growing group of people in the Atlanta metropolitan area who all share an interest in Linux.

Founded in December 1994, we have hosted a plethora of monthly meetings with talk topics ranging from "How to Configure PPP" to "How to Write Device Drivers". We usually have around 40 - 100 people at each meeting.

The ALE group is loosely organized, with a few people acting as contact points and no charter to bog things down. Anyone is welcome to come to the meetings; there is no membership, fees or any other formalities. To become a member, just show up. Our primary interest is in getting information about Linux to members of the Atlanta community.

ALE has three monthly meetings to accomodate the growing Linux Enthusiast population of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Central meeting is held at Emory University on the second Thursday of the month. The ALE NorthEast meeting is held at Edeltacom Data Center on the first Thursday of the month. The ALE NorthWest meets the third Thursday at the Weather Channel. Directions are on the left sidebar.

ALE Central Mtg. for May 11, 2006

Filed at 4:29 pm under ALE Central and Announcements by Ruscetta

The feature presentation for ALE’s
May 11, 2006 Central Meeting will be

“An Introduction to the Xen of Virtualization”

with Andrew Cathrow,
Red Hat Solutions Architect

The presentation will be a brief introduction to virtualization,
from business drivers through to the technical implementation.
Various virtualization technologies will be covered, such as
VMware, Bochs and QEMU, but the concentration will be on
the newer open source project, Xen, a Paravirtualizing
Hypervisor. We’ll discuss the technical implementation details
of Xen with features and benefits comparisons to traditional
approaches. The finish will be a demo with shameless plugs for
Fedora and Red Hat.

About the presenter:
Andrew Cathrow is a Solutions Architect for Red Hat working
out of Atlanta. He has been working with Linux for 9 years,
RHCE certified for 7 years. Born and bred in the UK, he moved to
the US around 5 years ago - which, he suggests, might explain his
spelling!

Yes Folks! There is a meeting. I know it will happen, I just didn’t get final word on what the topic is. I believe one of our longtime ALE members will talk about something interesting.
